A brief historical account of the Paris morgue is made, with its three locations until 1927, emphasizing the characteristics of the activities of displaying bodies that were carried out, until its closure in 1907. Some paradigmatic cases of bodies on display are recalled. Comments on this custom are provided by some intellectuals of the time.
