Review of the “Wunderkammer” and some insights into other forms of collection and exhibition

Abstract

What follows is just one more component of a rich history, that of medical museums and other health sciences. Felipe Cid, in his magnificent work of 2007, “Medical Museology. Theoretical aspects and practical issues” tells us about the rich history of this discipline, from the background - such as the one we discuss in this work -, medical museology to the origin and evolution of museums in general, the mention of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and to the Ruysch Anatomical Cabinet in the confines of the 1600s, passing through the study of the 1970s, the founding attempts during the 1800s and the absence of Medical Museology in relation to the new museums dedicated to the History of Sciences and Techniques. , arriving, finally, at the museums of the History of Medicine in the heritage context of the 19th century and at the consolidation and current state of Medical Museology.
